Toy breeds: Handle with care
Toy breeds are more prone to injury and illness due to their size and inbreeding. They often have breathing, stomach, skin and bone and joint issues.
Chihuahua
The Chihuahua, the world’s smallest dog breed, is known as purse dogs because they are so tiny.
The breed’s minuscule size requires gentle handling. A Chihuahua is best for adults.
A family with children must be able to train kids on how to carry and gently play with the dog. Otherwise, families with kids are highly discouraged from adopting one.
