A lot of us can remember our parents reminding us to brush our teeth twice a day and go to the dentist regularly to have it checked. We probably didn’t know as kids but taking care of our oral health was a huge part of taking care of our overall health. Same as humans, pets need to have healthy gums and teeth.

Proper dental care for our pets includes brushing their teeth at home and taking them to a veterinarian for professional dental check-ups. Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, many pet owners do not brush their pets’ teeth.

Walking them, giving plenty of food, brushing their coats, and trips to the salon are what most owners think are the basic needs. What is often overlooked is dental hygiene. If you’ve never brushed your pet’s teeth, this article will help you learn why doing it is essential to your pet’s health.

Dental issues can cause serious health problems

Gum disease is usually invisible. When it starts there are no outward signs and symptoms but could be very harmful.

Sean from Petsumer.com said that dental health isn’t the first thing that most pet owners consider when it comes to keeping our pets healthy, but it is such an important part of their well being.

Overlooking this will be a root of a much bigger problem. Bacteria under the gum can travel to the heart, kidneys, and liver and risk developing serious dental issues. By brushing, you can catch any problems or changes early and have them check out by professionals.

Pets can be good at hiding dental pain

One of the huge benefits of brushing your pet’s teeth regularly is that you can detect any dental problems early. Dogs and cats are very good at hiding pain, that includes any discomfort they may be having in their mouth. This may lead to a very serious dental problem.

Since there is no way for them to tell you that they are experiencing any discomfort, you have to keep an eye on their mouth and teeth. This is yet another reason it’s important to brush their teeth and take your pet in for regular dental checkups.

Prevent plaque and tartar buildup and freshen pets’ breath

Cleaning your dog’s teeth regularly can help prevent odor from developing while also removing any food particles in between your pet’s teeth and gums.

It is scientifically proven that the best way to decrease tartar and plaque buildup that causes most dental diseases of pets is through brushing teeth regularly, not only that but it will also keep their breath smelling fresh.

Cleaning your dog’s teeth regularly can help prevent odor from developing while also removing any food particles in between your pet’s teeth and gums. And when it comes to oral care, prevention is definitely best.

Teeth brushing rewards

Brushing your pet’s teeth can seem challenging at first. Take your time to train them to accept teeth brushing and give them plenty of praise and rewards.

Brushing your dog’s teeth will provide benefits worth more than the time you invest and can do wonders for your pet’s health.

Keeping your pet’s mouth healthy does not have to be difficult, and if done right, it can be something that your beloved pet looks forward to each day!
