  • Cost to care for more than one dog
  • The gender of both dogs

Two dog households: Before you add another dog, weigh the pros and cons of having two dogs. If you plan to leave your dog during the day while you are at work, it may be better to have two so that they can keep each other company.

Introducing a puppy to your pack: A second dog can give your older dog new energy. The older dog can help train the younger dog. And having multiple dogs can make your life easier as they amuse and entertain each other.

Does gender matter? Getting a second dog can make both dogs happy. But can two male dogs get along? What about two female dogs? Are you better off with a mixed set? The answer depends on the dog. The most important thing is to make sure the second dog is compatible with the first.
