How to reduce dog fur at home

If you have a furry friend, like one of the fluffiest big dogs on this list, then you probably know how challenging it is to keep dog fur off of your furniture, clothes, and even the floor. However, I’ve figured out a few ways to deal with this hairy problem, and we will now look at a few of them.

Grooming

You should take your dog grooming responsibilities very seriously, as this can help to reduce dog fur in your home. So, all you need to do is brush your dog or even your cat for about one minute outside of your home or even in your garage every single day. Doing so will actually help get rid of loose fur and reduce how much pet fur ends up in your home or on your clothes.

Bonus – Additionally, by brushing your cat regularly, this will reduce how many hairballs you unwittingly step on in your home.

Slipcovers

Washable slipcovers are a lifesaver, and they can help to truly protect your treasured furniture. After all, a fur-covered sofa is not appealing to anyone and not your guests. So, be sure to purchase a couple of furniture slipcovers that are meant for pets. You can find these in Costco, or if you don’t want to buy any, you can use a couple of sheets. Once they get covered in fur, simply wash them and re-use. When you intend on having guests over, remove them, and you will have beautiful fur-free furniture.

Throw rugs

One way to protect your carpets and your floors is to use throw rugs. However, you will need to place these throw rugs in places where they will collect the majority of your pet’s fur and prevent that fur from spreading around your home. Additionally, be sure to place a throw rug at the entrance and exit doors in your home so that they can collect the dirt and dust from your pet’s paws before they track it into the house. There are many machine washable throw rugs, and be sure to get ones that have non-skid backings.

Clean paws

Clean your pet’s paws. Once your pets have been outside, you should wipe off the bottom of their feet with a hand mitten so that they don’t get dirt and dust into your home. You should use a microfiber mitten, and this can go a long way in ensuring your home doesn’t get dirty.

Dog clothes

Another interesting tip is that you should consider putting clothes on your dog after bathing or brushing. This can help to keep the fur in place and not in your home. Luckily, there are lots of adorable pet clothing and even dog t-shirts that your dog will look stylish in.

Accessories for cleaning

There are tons of cleaning accessories that you can purchase to clean your pet’s fur from your home. Many of them work like Swiffers, where they pick up loose pet fur, and others work like lint rollers. Be sure to also get a good quality vacuum cleaner from brands such as Dyson, Bissell, Dirt Devil, etc., that are designed for cleaning pet fur and messes.

Many of these vacuums also have particular attachments that you can use to “vacuum” your pets. Many pets love this, however, be sure to do so slowly and on the lowest settings so that they can get accustomed as well as prevent any possible injuries.

Next, you should also get grooming tools that work similarly to rakes that remove the excess fur from your pets. One fantastic tool that I can’t live without is the FURminator, which is very effective.

With that said, once you follow the above tips along with regular grooming, you should be able to fight the fuzz and keep your home as clean and fur-free as possible.
