Goldendoodle grooming: Keep your dog looking good

Grooming is an important part of owning a dog. If you’re not willing to put in the time and effort, then you will quickly find it hard to keep your pup looking good. Not only do Goldendoodles need their fur trimmed regularly for maintenance purposes and to make sure they don’t look like a shaggy mess (unless that’s the look you want!), it’s also important for the health of their skin and fur.

Brush your dog regularly to remove loose fur 

One of the first grooming tasks you’ll want to tackle is regular brushing. This will help remove loose hair, dander, and dirt, prevent matting and also stimulate the production of natural oils that can make your dog’s coat shiny and healthy. Brushing also helps keep their coat nice and smooth. This is a job you should do every day, especially during high shedding seasons, or every few days at a minimum.

Brush all over the dog’s body to remove tangles and mats. Goldendoodles typically have a long, dense coat that sheds moderately.

Clip nails and brush teeth regularly 

Another important grooming and hygiene task for Goldendoodle owners to be aware of is keeping their nails clipped and their teeth clean. Clipping the nails regularly will help keep them from splitting or breaking, which can cause pain to your pet. Brushing your dog’s teeth regularly will also help keep their breath smelling fresh and prevent dental issues.

Keep ears clean

This will help prevent infection in the ear canal that could lead to painful infections or deafness. Get the right ear cleaner for your dog’s breed and follow the instructions on the packaging to safely get your dog’s ears clean. 

Trim hair between paw pads 

Sometimes, a Goldendoodle will have too much hair on its paws, which becomes tangled and matted when walking on hard surfaces such as concrete. This can lead to pain or discomfort for your furry friend.

Trimming these areas allows them to walk with ease and helps prevent irritation from dirt and debris collected in the hair.
