Make moving to a new house with your dog easy

When you move to a new home, there are lots of things you need to consider. However, one thing that can often slip your mind in the chaos of moving is your dog. You have a big upheaval ahead of you, but so does your dog. Moving to a new house, taking in new surroundings, and learning new sights and sounds will be just as overwhelming for your dog as it is for you. So, what can you do to make moving with your dog easier?

Plan your move

Leaving things until the last minute won’t work. You need to plan out when you are moving and how you will get there. For example, if you are traveling across the state, you will need to allow yourself extra time to travel with your dog.

Bathroom breaks and exercise breaks for your dog will add extra time to your journey, and the last thing you want to do is rush around. So, plan your route, determine how long the journey will take, and most importantly, get your dog used to riding in the car.

Introduce your dog to their new surroundings slowly

Just like humans, dogs can quickly feel overwhelmed by their new surroundings. For your dog, it is tiring learning how to navigate a new home and new area. Giving your dog the time and the opportunity to soak up everything is essential.

If you rush the introduction phase, you may cause unnecessary stress and anxiety for your dog, which could lead to destructive behavior.

Manage stress and anxiety

You feel stressed and anxious when you move, and so too does your dog. Significant changes can be highly stressful for your dog. Uprooting them from everything that they know can leave them feeling confused.

To help your dog cope with all the changes and to manage their stress and anxiety levels, you could look at using CBD oil. You can give your dog CBD oil before, during, and after a house move to ensure that your dog stays as calm and relaxed as possible.

Of course, not all CBD oils are created the same, and when it comes to finding the best CBD oil for dogs, you need to start by looking at the ingredients. Always check out the ingredients in CBD oil, and keep things as natural as possible.

Provide time and patience

After moving with your dog, things may go swimmingly; however, sometimes they do not. As a dog owner, you need to be prepared for and aware of your dog’s behavior changes. Monitoring how your dog acts and ensuring they eat a well-balanced diet, together with an appropriate amount of exercise, is crucial.

Sometimes, after you move, your dog may become disorientated or even have an accident inside the house. Make allowances for your dog and for the changes they have experienced. Don’t punish your dog, instead focus on making sure your dog knows how to get out of the new house to go potty and knows how to alert you to their needs.

Making moving with your dog easy

Dogs are creatures of habit, and change can be stressful for them. Plan ahead, take your time, and give your dog extra love and attention, to make moving with your dog as easy as possible for both of you.
