Keeping your dog healthy isn’t something you should have to figure out on your own.

Vets are trained, educated, experienced professionals who have seen the entire range of animal situations and addressed their appropriate needs.

Here are some essential vet tips for keeping your furry friend healthy.

Regular care and grooming

Pets need preventative care to grow, develop, and stay healthy.

They also need regular grooming to care for their ears, eyes, nails, and coat. Good grooming protects your dog from anything that could cause illness.

Nutrition and medications

Premium food specific to your dog’s size, breed, and lifestyle is crucial to its quality and length of life.

Ask your vet for a recommendation and if your furry friend might need any supplement added to their diet.

Mental and physical exercise

Even the smallest dog or cat needs plenty of mental and physical exercise daily to keep its body healthy and its mischievous nature at bay.

Ensure you provide ample opportunity for walks, playtime, or stimulating agility activities. It’s also a good idea to switch up activities so that your animal partner doesn’t get bored.

Training is crucial to use their mental energy for something good instead of destructive behavior.

Attention and affection

Pets crave your love and attention!

Pet parents are dedicated to their fur babies even when they have a busy lifestyle.

Even a few moments a day of eye contact, some dedicated belly rubs, or a quick game of fetch outside can solidify your bond.

Educate yourself

Take it upon yourself to learn the signs of healthy (and unhealthy) pets and know how to reach out to your vet clinic if something seems amiss.

Make sure that your home is a safe environment for your pet and that you don’t allow them access to anything dangerous.

Final thoughts on using vet tips

Having a dog is a massive responsibility for pet owners, but the payoff is more than worth the effort.

As soon as you get your pet, start on the right foot by setting them up at a local vet clinic and making a plan to give them the nutrition, exercise, and attention they need.

If you’ve had your pet for a while and haven’t given any of these areas enough attention, it’s never too late to start!
