4 ways to keep an eye on your pets when you’re not home

Posted August 22, 2016

For most pet owners, Fluffy and Fido are family members. Understandably, people worry about their fur babies while out of the house. How do you make sure they’re not getting into trouble? Are they on the furniture again? Is he anxious when I leave for work?

Thanks to developments in technology, there are some useful gadgets you can employ to make sure your furry family is happy, healthy and not ripping up the carpet.

Watch from afar

One of the simplest ways to keep an eye on your pets is to set up a security camera feed. Lorex Technology has home security systems ranging from simple, portable cameras to full-fledged weatherproof outdoor cameras, which could all help you to watch your pets while away. This technology is flexible; the cameras can be placed on any flat surface, including walls, tables or even the ceiling. They have a simple setup and you don’t even need to be at a computer to check in. With the mobile app, pet parents can tune in from anywhere on their smartphone. Watching your pets while you are away is a great way to learn how your pet behaves, and a monitoring camera may just be the starting point to caring for your pet while they’re home alone.

Keep their stomachs happy

It is not uncommon to find pet owners who run home during lunch break to feed their pets. There is no need for this extra errand with the variety of automatic pet feeders that are now available. If you come home to a begging animal, stave off these complaints by getting a snack to your pets during the day. This is not limited to cats and dogs. There are automatic feeders for animals ranging from fish to ferrets, and birds to iguanas. In addition to feeders, there are also automatic pet waterers, which are great to ensure a steady stream of fresh water to your friends throughout the day.

Entertain and exercise

Dogs and cats love to play, and it is important they get daily exercise. How can you make sure your pet is staying active and entertained when you’re not home? There are new toys made just for this purpose. FroliCat makes cat toys specifically for when kitties are home alone. Featuring lasers on automatic timers, electronic mice, and more, these toys are sure to keep your cat off the couch. CleverPet is an exciting option for dog parents hoping to turn their puppy into Einstein. Created for dogs that are by themselves a lot, this interactive machine works with your dog to teach tricks with glowing lights, and even dispenses treat rewards.

Track their movements

Helpful for keeping your pet safe even when you are home, GPS collars are becoming more and more popular. If your dog is able to go outside when you’re away, this can be particularly helpful. The most popular collar, Tagg GPS Pet Tracker, has a mobile app that allows dog owners to track many parts of a dog’s day. You can set safe zones to be notified by text when your pet is too far away from home, get automatic directions to your pet’s location, and even see their activity levels throughout the day. It’s basically a FitBit for your dog with added safety measures! Being waterproof and highly durable, you don’t have to worry about it being damaged; you can just focus on your dog’s well-being.

With new advances in pet tech, it is easy to ensure your animals are entertained, safe and happy while you’re not home. Just because your pet is home alone, that shouldn’t mean they can’t play, eat and enjoy themselves.
