Our beloved pets are family members. As pet parents, there’s a lot we can do to keep our doggies’ tails wagging.

All loving pet parents have a deep connection with their fur babies. We can sense when they’re excited, upset, or agitated. Since they can’t speak, it’s up to us to tend to their needs and keep them happy and healthy. Our doggies don’t have to grow up to be productive members of society or breadwinners in their families – that’s our job. Fill their lives with fun and games, eating and sleeping, and all the rest.

Keeping pets healthy is a full-time vocation. Most domesticated animals require human intervention to ensure their safety, health, and wellness. Fortunately, our toolkit has plenty of resources to give them the best life possible. Let’s look at some of the many options available to pet parents.

Proper grooming

Malamute gets its coat brushed at the groomer. Like washing your dog, brushing helps keep your dog clean and removes dead hair.
Regular brushing helps keep your dog clean and removes dead hair.

All pets need regular grooming. This is especially true for pets with double coats, but it’s equally essential for pets with short fur. A high-quality grooming brush is a good place to start. While some dogs don’t enjoy being brushed, others love the attention. It’s essential to get your dog to enjoy a grooming session.

To do so, you may want to start with a few light brush strokes while they are eating. The more you groom, the quicker they will get used to it. Grooming has the dual benefit of removing all that fur from your pets and preventing it from blowing through your AC unit all over your home. Plus, the doggies will feel great too.

Some pet parents prefer to get their best friends professionally groomed. Depending on where you live and how many pets you have, this can be an expensive undertaking. Expect anywhere in the region of $70 – $150 per dog. Pet sensitivity to shampoos and cleaning products is always a concern, so always use hypoallergenic products that are easy on the skin and less likely to irritate your fur baby.

Proper feeding

Hungry Boston Terrier stands next to food bowl. Ensure your dog eats a healthy diet by feeding high-quality food and adding kefir, bone broth, and fruits and vegetables.
Ensure your dog eats a healthy diet by feeding high-quality food and healthy treats.

Even though we think of our pets as fully capable of fending for themselves – many pets don’t know to moderate their eating. If you leave unlimited food out, they will eat themselves sick. That’s a yucky thought!

Proper weight management is crucial. To keep your dog at a healthy weight, allocate a set quantity of food twice a day. Space the meals apart so that your dog doesn’t get too hungry between meals.

It’s a good idea to feed your pooch early in the morning so that they are well stocked up on vitamins, minerals, nutrients, and all the other good stuff to enjoy a full day of play.

Don’t feed the pet too late in the evening since most of that food will move into the stomach, and the energy generated from the food won’t be put to much use. Always try to maintain a healthy, balanced diet, even if it means going to a pet nutritionist or your veterinarian. You don’t want to deprive your pet of necessary nutrients, but you don’t want to overfeed your pet either.

As a delicious, healthy, and nutritious treat – all dogs need treats – you may want to try Tempo & Tales. Their treats are natural and organic blends of human-grade, non-GMO products designed specifically for increasing your dog’s appetite, treating inflammatory diseases and anxiety, and maintaining overall wellness. Vets endorsed these treats and tested them by independent laboratories to ensure the highest quality ingredients.

Regular exercise

Playing frisbee with your dog is a good way to exercise.
Exercise helps keep dogs healthy and happy.

All pets need to exercise. The healthier your pets are, the longer they will live. Regular exercise is one of the best ways to get your doggies smiling from ear to ear.

They love the sights, sounds, smells, and feel of the outdoors. Their olfactory senses are so much more attuned to nature than ours are.

Dogs can tell everything they need to know from the scents they pick up.

Remember to walk dogs multiple times during the day, even if it’s short walks.

They will love you regardless, but they do love getting out there and fox-trotting it on the grass, the road, or at the park!
