Help your dog recover after illness, surgery, disease, or even a tummy bug. Give your dog the TLC it needs to feel better.

No matter what illness your dog has been through, they deserve all of the TLC they can get to get them back to their amazing selves.

Whether your furry friend is recovering from surgery, a disease, or even a tummy bug, you should treat them the way you want to be treated. Read on for some helpful tips on how to help your fur baby on the road to recovery.

Rest

Ensure you have a designated space for your dog to get their much-needed rest. Ensure they have a quiet place, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, young children, and other animals.

Sometimes, after major surgeries, you may have to keep your dog in a comfortable cage. This might be necessary if your vet requests your dog to take time off from any strenuous exercise, even just walking.

Be sure to make your dog the most comfortable that you can. Also, talk to your vet in detail about the amount of rest they need.

Exercise

On the other hand, exercise can be an important part of your dog’s recovery.

Exercise can make a sick dog feel better, especially if your dog is usually very active. However, make sure to prevent overexertion, or this could worsen your dog’s condition.

After surgery, exercise may be imperative for proper healing of the surgical site or to maintain the use of a limb. Be sure to contact your vet for information about this.

Nutrition

Nutrition is essential when it comes to getting your sick dog back to full health.

“Recovery diet” is a term that is heard a lot when discussing a dog that has undergone surgery or recovered from a serious disease. This is an umbrella term for many types of diets.

Natural, raw dog food is rich in protein which is essential for supporting your dog’s muscle mass and aiding general recovery. Brands like Bella & Duke, for example, have a variety of raw dog food that will be extremely beneficial in the journey to a full recovery, as some raw foods can even include superfoods that will give your dog a boost.

Tasty foods are a good way to get your dog eating again after an illness. If their appetite is suppressed, they might need something extra delicious to encourage them!

Monitor your dog’s progress

Keeping a close eye on your dog’s progress after an illness or operation is a big part of the process.

First, you should monitor your dog’s bathroom routine after being under anesthesia to ensure everything is returning to normal. In many cases, your vet will make you aware of expected changes after treatments or surgeries.

Keep an eye out for side effects from any medications that your dog may be on, and make sure these are normal by speaking to your vet. If you do notice anything out of the ordinary or particularly concerning, you should contact them immediately.

If not told to do otherwise, regularly checking wounds is essential for preventing infection or postoperative complications. By doing this, you can also minimize your dog’s discomfort and ensure a pleasant road to recovery.

We hope you’ve found these tips helpful and wish your furry pal a prompt recovery!
