Use smart technology to pamper your dog.

Technology is helping to transform every home into a “smart” home, which is making life just a little bit easier for most homeowners. Of course, what’s just as interesting to see is how this technology and be used to improve the comfort of our pets, too! When you’re not home, you can’t help but wonder how your dog is doing throughout the day. Luckily, these bits of technology can help you answer that question and others while keeping your dog safe and happy.

#1 Smart Pet Feeders

Every dog loves mealtime, but “free feeding” (the practice of leaving a dog’s bowl down all day) is the wrong choice for many households. Many dogs end up eating out of boredom and will over-eat if given a chance, which is why measuring your dog’s food and feeding them according to their nutritional needs is the best route to take.

Of course, we’ve all ran out the door in the middle of our busy morning routines and couldn’t remember whether we did those simple tasks — such as feeding your four-legged friend. That’s why a smart pet feeder can really help you and your dog out. These smart pet feeders are set up to dispense a certain amount of food at certain times throughout the day, preventing your dog from over-eating and checking one thing off your to-do list.

#2 Smart Thermostat

Whether your dog’s coat is thick or thin, everyone needs climate control to feel comfortable. And, since you aren’t home all day to monitor the temperature, having a smart thermostat might just be the next best thing. These thermostats can have an array of settings so that you can keep your dog comfortable all year-round, without ever having to fiddle with it on the wall.

Smart thermostats can be controlled using your smartphone and WiFi compatible thermostats allow you to check and adjust the temperature even when you’re away. That allows you to make sure your dog never gets too hot or too cold, even if the weather rapidly changes. This is also one piece of smart home tech that will make your home more comfortable for you, as Myatt and Bates point out.

#3 Smart Pet Doors

If you have a secure backyard, a smart pet door could be the perfect addition to your home. With a smart pet door, you can tell when your dog has gone in or out, and you even have the ability to lock the door using your smartphone. This allows you to keep an eye on home security without compromising your dog’s comfort. So, next time you work late, you can feel confident knowing your dog can let themselves out if they need to go.

Give Your Dog The Good Life

With the advent of new home technology, there are all sorts of ways you can give your dog “the good life” with the use of relatively simple and inexpensive devices and apps. These are just a few ideas to get you thinking about how tech can improve your dog’s life, and yours, in the process.
