For a relaxed everyday life with a dog, train your four-legged friend and ensure that they follow specific rules.

It is important to note that puppies are not toddlers. Dog training won’t work if you coddle them.

Follow these training tips for success.

Start training your dog early

Many owners tend to take training their puppy easy in the early days. Of course, you can’t expect a young dog to listen and follow your commands immediately.

Training tip: It’s essential to start training dogs early. That’s because it’s easier to teach good behavior rather than break bad habits after they become established.

Dog owners should set some limits for their little four-legged friend in everyday life right from the start and pay the necessary attention to teaching them basic commands and being on a lead.

Training early pays off in the long run and helps avoid unnecessary problems later.

To motivate dogs during training, small rewards in the form of treats are very effective. A tasty snack at the right time signals your four-legged friend that they have just done the right thing and that listening to their owner pays off.

Just like the main food, dog treats should be of good quality and contain suitable ingredients.

Dog training tip: Include small snacks between meals and include them in your dog’s daily food ration to prevent obesity.

What every dog must learn

Of course, not every family dog has to be able to master complicated tricks. However, specific basic commands, such as “sit” and “stay,” are among the things that all dogs have to learn and that help the owner to be able to control their four-legged friend in everyday life.

This also applies to being on a lead, which experience has shown to leave a lot to be desired in many dogs and can quickly turn going walkies into an extremely stressful affair.

In addition, sooner or later, every dog has to get used to staying home alone. Since this is not in their nature, dog owners may need to show some patience.

Consistency is vital in dog training

You need to be consistent if you want your dog to listen to and stick to your rules. Don’t just let your four-legged friend have their way because it’s convenient.

Training tip: Be consistent to avoid uncertainty. Not being consistent can confuse your dog and cause it to test how far it can go before you react and set limits.

Hopefully, it goes without saying that dog training should always be non-violent.

Excessive harshness, such as yelling at your dog or even blows, is taboo and often leads to behavioral disorders such as aggression.

Even small dog breeds need training

Whether your four-legged friend is a Yorkshire Terrier, a German Shepherd, or a Saint Bernard doesn’t matter. Even though there are differences in character and personality depending on the breed, every dog needs training.

Dog training tip: All dogs need training. This applies to large animals and small dog breeds, which otherwise soon turn out to be extremely tiring companions in everyday life and can shatter their owners’ nerves.
