5 tips for keeping your dog happy and healthy

Posted March 9, 2019

dog runs on beach. Use 5 tips to keep dogs happy and healthyThey say a dog is a man’s best friend, and for many people, their dog becomes as essential to them as any other member of the family. So, it is imperative to dog owners that their canine companions are kept healthy, to ensure they are with us for as long as possible. Here are five tips on how you can make sure your dog stays happy and healthy.

Regular Exercise

All dogs need daily exercise, but how much they need will depend on their breed. For example, breeds such as border collies and Dalmatians are well-known for their energetic nature, so will require daily exercise. If you haven’t already got a dog but are wondering which breed to go for then do your research and don’t take on a high-energy breed if you haven’t got the time to go on daily walks.

Daily exercise can include walking, jogging, or swimming together, and your dog may also benefit from socializing with other dogs at agility classes.

Nutritional Needs

Every dog is different, and certain foods may not agree with your dog’s digestive system. Be sure to keep an eye on how your dog reacts to foods and if it is clear a particular food doesn’t make them feel great, cut it out of their diet.

Love

This is one of the most natural tips to follow for making your dog happy and healthy. You can create an unconditional and loving bond between you and your dog by taking the time to show your affection as a form of reward. If your dog has been well-behaved, then make sure you show them through strokes and cuddles.

Showing your dog how much you love them can also be a great way to train them if you use your affection as a form of positive affirmation. Just like when dealing with humans, you can show people how you feel about them through how you treat them. So, do this also with your dog, as it will help them understand the consequences of good or bad behavior.

Regular Health Checks

As your dog is unable to tell you when they have any concerns about their health, it is crucial to take your dog to the vet regularly to get checked out. Going regularly to appointments means that you can discover any health problems before they develop into anything more serious, and it may even save your dog’s life.

Vets can also help you with any dietary requirements or any oral hygiene concerns you may have.

Take Care of Their Joints

As dogs age, they may start to suffer from sore joints and develop arthritis. In addition to taking them for regular vet check-ups, you can also use hemp oil for dogs to help relieve any pain and discomfort.

Research has found there are benefits to a dog’s health, such as reduced inflammation and reduction of anxiety, so while it is a relatively new use of hemp oil, it is a legal substance that could make your dog happier and healthier for longer.

Conclusion

Our dogs often become a valuable member of the family, and by following these helpful tips, you can ensure that your dog has a happy and long life.
